Wool Houndstooth Check. A broken twill weave of Scottish origin forming a four-pointed star. Twill weaves (cf. plain weaves) have diagonal cross-ribs, sometimes raised, as in gabardine. Houndstooth, herringbone and whipcord are right-hand twills; denim is an example of a left-hand twill.
