Subject: m&r..rod mckuen's OLYMPIA

I gun the car ('78 Toyota) and go from 10 & 3rd to 22nd & 6th w/o a
light...at 5:45 I tell myself to be careful and drive like me's at Le
Mans...it;s all a dream the empire state pinnacle as backdrop, the
phantasmagoric figures shining flash lights into endless unloading vans and
trucks of "stuff"...this must be the Dantean circle..where these shadows
are doomed to seek the endless repetitions of history..

At B...I mop up what I left behind yesterday...better
pickins the 2nd day..Marc Stevens p.b. orig...Zebra Books 10half!...with
its incomparable opening lines..."My cock is the biggest and best in the
New York blue movie industry"...I know I was on to somethin' when yesterday
I bought...Harry Weems...HERE COMES HARRY REEMS! p.b. orig. pinnacle books
1975...neither listed any no how where on www...plan to list each for
75.00..and should be shipping them off post haste to the Widener Lib. at
Harvard...after all how much original source material is there on one of
the Amer's highest grossing...gross...most exportable industries...tres
little...seminal books....

Then I buy a Cellarful of Noise..The english Ed...which i've
never seen and 3 Rod McKuen Books.....yes Rod Mc...this lib. is from his
Sec/My Man Friday/Lover/Pal...why not there's only one copy of the Sinatra
Poem/Book and that's 275.00...B. for once doesn't even look at what i'm
buying but multiplies the h.c. by 5 and throws in the p.b. orig. for 2...by
the time I get back here again in another hour..all the signed limited
Mck...are gone gone gone...and i regret not having them...for 5.00..but my
stupidity and snobbery as ever rules the day...and I do find another
privately printed one...lavishly inscribed...with no listing at all even
for the trade...

At R...who's mellowing out I buy a small Russian Atlas..28
color maps for 20.00 he sez 25.00..and I say neither of us knows what we're
looking at...Read Russin...and then when I return on my loop..Another
Russian Atlas this time a Railway one with gorgeous maps..and two fold-in
linen PHILLIP'S TRAVELLING MAPS one
of the Chinese Empire...the other of Turkey and Asia..both in beautiful
condition..10.00 each and when I look them up...nothing on..'um good...

In my pereginations..I notice two regulars staring at a print
that Stanley's selling...he's storage lot inherited the life time of work
of the expropriationist Artist Steven Pollack....this one is a parody of
Olympia's Manet..with thigh high stocking supermodel...pet monkey...new age
black mama...etc...when the puzzled guys say it looks familiar...I perk
pedantically up..."it's manet's Olympia"...nono I the face on the model
looks familiar...oooh....when I return thru the next time.. half an hour
by...I try to tell Stanley it;s a take off on Manet's Olympia..."IT'S 300
DOLLARS I JUST SOLD ONE" so much for education...the only question under
capitalism is how much???and how quickly how much???

Was going to write about Jacob Riis and Randy White...guess
i'll circle back to those next time....remember it;s not who you know or
what or when....it;s how much Jeff....DRmnop...
