STRANGERS... or as L. puts it in this brave net new world ALL MY STRANGERS
ARE GOING TO BE FRIENDS...reminds me that I met Larry McMurty once (cowboy
boots and 'll) walking up to a walk-up (I was walking down) apt full of
books on Bleecker St...Great stuff cobwebs, mice, roach, dust, kitchen-sink
full, etc...and an avalanche of a life-time of thrift-strand-rummage-
stuffes all over...wonder if he bought it...as i remember one of the books
by a black dialect poet happenned to accidentally end up in my pocket...Rumor or Reading has it that McMurty and David Meltzer (his
collection of Wally Berman via Glen Horowitz NOW SHOWING AT AN UPPER EAST
SIDE LOCATION NOT NEAR YOU) (i'm not going to see it because I resent not
owning it)..anyway used to scout the Old S.F. make ends meet
days...MCM...ends up famous...ends up in his or near his home town..and in
Ludwig of Bavaria style fills a ghost town full up books...bad timing
Larry..just as the net-nerd-jock puts on the 100,000,000 title on F.D.E..
bad biz move...good Art Brut move..sage blowin' in the wind as the last
scholar enters the last corral of the last ghost book town of the last of
the last of the west....The two Holiday Sales have been vast disappointment even with no
hopes..at the Hudson one, once pastored by Clement Moore of TWAS THE NIGHT
'FORE...thought i'd feel some spirit..but just felt like an idiot buying 3
kids books of no $$$$$ value...and up in Port J. in the land of the
diminished gene pool next to the marker where Crane was said to have
interviewed the Union almost dead..for Red B. of C...(closes at 9:00)..is
there some irony there...the black welfare folk NOT huddling under the
civil war mon..as sun sets...bought 0 nada zip books..and was desperate
'nuf to buy 7 records, including a Frankie...how the mighty have fallen..o
Ozymandias...More holiday tidings of a Jew trying to make a X-ian buck...my
daughter seems to be agoraphobic and has n't left her house for 5
years...i'm going thru a messy divorce after 30??? (can you count) the
years...and worst of all i haven't bought one book now for 5 days...setting
a world's record... out there in la-la land Wyoming to Pa..may yr dreams be
white....DRn...
