L...sz i'm mellowing....mmmmmm...these missives should be mutterings
and mummerings...mmmm...but i thinks there are still some residual ravings and
ranting remaining....Read in the Prague Paper what i suffer from trans
generation post holocaust syndrome...hmmmmm...dr.Anyway 'nuf 'bout ME....Maggie Roberts was for many years
Paramount's highest pd screen writer...during the 50's she was black listed
for not namimg names but made a come back finally writing the script for
TRUE GRIT...for which John Wayne won an academy award..Not much on screen trivia...so...about 3 years ago at the Flee 6:00
a.m..raw cold winter..under shadow of Empire St. Tower...the most difficult
guy there...had a bunch of books by John Sandford...some inscribed by him
seemingly to his cousin...Sanford had an early Correspondence with
W.C.W...and in the 80's published a small chap book of it...as well as some
Black Sparrow stuff ..good 'nuff i guess..but among these books was a 30's
Novel by Julian Shapiro called THE WATER WHEEL...which had a W.C.W.
blurb...ok Sherlock..i look at the list of Sanford's Books...and su' 'nuff
honey chil', one of them lists THE WATER WHEEL...make my pile..pay too much
and goes home to do some research...Julian Shapiro is the REAL NAME of the American Writer John
Sanford...John Sanford is the MAIN CHARACTER in Julian Shapiro's
'erbildingsroman' THE WATER WHEEL...Shapiro...took the Goyish name
Sanford..for reasons known to Kirk Douglas, Tony Curtis, Al Jolson et
al....a Borgesian tale if there ever was one...Get a letter a yr later from a collector who collects J.S. aka or
really is Julian Shapiro who almost buys it for 850..but returns
it..Condition, Condition, Condition...may his children get nose jobs..an
impossible book and even with a fair D.J. impossible...The book then falls
into the twilight zone where i don;t see it for two years...Cleaning up my desk...VOILA..just like the THE PURLOINED LETTER...list
it..and then this summer get a bite...Finally reach Dr. C....who tells me
he lives 5 blocks from John-Julian- Sanford-Shapiro..and has had him for a
patient..lo these many years...and has all his books incribed...except THE
WATER WHEEL...and he tells me about MAGGIE ROBERTS who married
john-julian-stanford-shapiro and supported him all these from 30-to-90
years, she;s dead, John is 95 and still sharp...I suggest he rush the book
out and get it inscribed before Julian kicks over..and won't give him a
discount... NO RETURNS PLEASE..to be continued...the literary Don next time...dr...dr...is there a
pill for what I got...yes Dr. N...take two and hit to right....
