winter in shade..spring in sun...at 12st books they took down the
paper signs..i bought my 3rd copy in a year of A WONDERFUL TIME from
Billy...nobody wants it but the rich...which is all right by me...we all
want pictures of ourselves..look at me..look at me...look at me, mom...Spent part of yesterday not buying a Milton Acorn book...then seeing
the other other copy, signed of sd book was a a few 100's...drove'em right
on back and bought it for $2..where it had been dreamily sleeping for the
last decade...made me look up CANADIAN LITERATURE...typed it in with a $200
minim....exluding the obvious Lowry, Atwood, Shields, Cohen, Davies,
Ondaatje...left a bit of poetry...and read the Acorn, hmmm...not bad..It's all vanity sayeth the preacher...and the Candian guys, Temple,
Serendepity from Hofer, and Alphabet...somebody must read it...vanity plus
publicity plus a later novel..plus cultural exports, plus cultural pride,
plus government subsidies, plus State U's equal $$$$$, or at least home of
same, sometimes..So who is the greatest modern Serbian poet? Albanian poet? Iraqui?
Libyan? Palestinian Israeli? Honduran? give me the top ten choice in each
category and let me decide...once a Decade the Nobels pick one and they
enter our consciousnesses...like the bombs over Kusovo...and the mainstream
media wonders why some Hack like Mailer or Updike or Bellow (oops) didn't
get culturally genuflected to..Who are these people we're bombing...Like eagles mating, the F 15's....Where are you Walt when we need
you..this is the empire stakes...neither right nor wrong..somebody's got to
do it..that's why we pay our taxes...that i'm doooooing anything to avoid
dooooooing right now...She's 7, she changed her name from Luca (light) to
Peace, may it be.... avec toi...even bombing the bad guys..has its own
vanity...Drn
