Subject: M&R CARL ANDRE ON THE EMERALD ISLE
0 so tiring as the Self, endless me meow, me, a moi, chez moi,
it;s mind,...do you mine the mind etc.
so Carl threw her out the window..hot summer;s nite 'round the
corner, and now Anna M...is as famous as he was...another inadvertent career
move...
He was an Italian who lived in Germany a publisher, small,
inadvertantly dapper, very very enthusiastic...very charmining...pipe a
puff a pipe...he waded right in (even tho I told him it was unmarked chaos)
an hour later...with all the ephemeral concept. and min. art he could
find...peels off ten snappy bank new l00's and sez he'll be back...
Back next day with what he has...40pp single spaced..done by a pro
librarian..of his concept. and min. art collection..going to donate it to
the Vienna Inst. of Art..In front of his house..shows me Large Sculpture by
Naumann..commissioned by...not so poor by a long shot...
See him every six months of so..buys something..which i'm sure by
now are duplicates..just to be friendly..buying a major Archive...the Green
Galllery etc....See him last year at Trinity..120 dealers...ask him if he;s
found anyhing here..Nada,,,ZIP,,,000,,all those new snappy 100's just
wasting away...The book trade nevery ceases to amaze me...bad taste over
good money...every day...PRESS DELETE NOW...
Years ago....I knew two of the nicest people I knew..started a
store off the beaten Soho..sold nothing but post
60/s...concept.min.fluxus..performance..etc..nicest people ever...went
broke in about 2 years...
One i remember walking in and telling them I had just sold a copy
of Gene Stratton-Porter's Jesus of the Emerald Isle (sans spine) for
325...this was almost 20 years ago..& I had gotten 13 calls from all over
the U.S. of A...who;s Gene Stratton-Porter or better yet who was Anna
Mendiotta? never shall the twain meet..Mark my Clemens...
The roots of 20th Cent. Art and Lit..which now dominate World
Culture...are the popular lit. and art of the Great Americas..it was no
accident that Pollock came out of Benton..or Rausch...and Johns...came out
of the Texas Rangers...Look, Hear, See...if you sell Tom Swift...can Robert
Morris be far behind...You have only your idiot parochial taste to leave
behind..on both sides of the Cultural Divide...loose yr mind...Delete Now
and Forever..it's always later...DR. N.,..
