Subject: muttering & ravings at D.O.A.
The day begins with a BANG...at the garage in the FleaMarket..this guy
i;ve never seen has 3 big boxes of vintage p.b.'s...$3 each...if i take a
hundred?...a collection made in heaven..mint..& i don;t mean herbal
tea...but, alway's a but....they have been stored in such a way that two
thirds of them are badly bent tho else perfect..find 96..guy tries to get
me to fill ten score..96's enough...
it's 8 and i'm already running late..run harry run...i bought
two books right off (Peintre Paul Robert..turn of century Genre
painter..10..and a R. Loewy..he threw in for a buck) but the guy can't
break a hundred...i buy a cholestrol sandwich..to break the money and an
orange..feeling guilty about all those who think they love me...and off to
meet G at the downtown Flea..
The third guy of the morning..promised me loads of books from a 92
year old Photographer-Metal Worker...the stuff dreams are made of...he has
about 20 books..manana..a;ways..manana..but there two good Skira in
there..Lascaux & Arab Painting..and G cleans out the rest..
We're off to the Long Island..on ad in the paper...two idiots w/o a
map we manage to get lost in the endless mall dark dream landscapes...north
or south it;s all the same..the house in Levittown..the G.I's dream turned
nitemare of suburban cookie cutter t.v...stereo..all appliance reality is
unassuming to say the least..i'm along for the ride so no care 'em..and
anyway i;ve bought enough books already...amidst the mediocre leather (56
lots) there is a Jerusalem Windows...I take it down..just give it the quick
once over..and move on...there's a La Fontaine..1764..not much else...
G wants to eat late Breakfast early Lunch..in this endless hum
landscape MCDon...look 'em good 'em...another cholestrol overload
later..see in paper a gang of Kids just stabbed to death another one after
Basket Ball Game..& where was I Like Mike..Hawking Nike's & American
Dreams..G who's from the Phillipines...mentions we're lucky not to be in
Indonesia 'midst all that sectarian violence..close to his home..'nough
violence 'round here..to darken the dreams of these pale 'burbs..
To make a lot story longer..we get the Chagall at 200..against a
local guy who doesn/t believe in reality..and the the 1764..for a buck..and
G buys enough other shit to make sure we have plenty of ballast sailing
home...
We stop at H.W. (a large thrift coffee/cum bookstore)...and Tuli
grabs me...I get him to autograph a FUGS album they have in store...to
impress the staff...they all hate me & for all i see with very good reason
because i'm the best customer they've ever seen...he wants to introduce me
to Izzy Young..blast from the past... Folk song books,...lead-belly...1935
auto-bio,..tell him just put on the net Weaver Song Book signed by all the
Weavers, a thousand big ones..looks at me a little dazed..doesn;t the clock
say 1967..isn't it always 1967,,
The La Fontane i look up on net..is the counterfeit of the Paris
1762..but good enough anway..you're bound to learn something if you keep on
breathin' & truckin'..bound to..if we;re not all d.o.a...DR.n.
