1. I do not consider another bookseller, even a big one as the "enemy"
2. B & N is not in competition with USED book dealers.
3. I don't care how much the markup is. I get what I want. If somebody buys
at a higher price, they must be getting what they want. Maybe the
satisfaction of dealing with a "Name".
4. B & N is a good source of First Editions, which are considerably marked
down, and in many instances without remainder marks.
5. If they sell new books at a discount, then good for them and good for the
buyer.6. We have the inventory of used books, therefore we control it. If in fact
the dire predictions, without basis, start to come through, why just don't
sell to them.
7. Meanwhile I will sell to whomever meets my asking price. B & N, and
Amazon both do this very well.

Couldn't agree more. B&N and Amazon with their capitalization and
large advertizing budgets and name recognition are the best thing to happen
to the moribund o.p. trade....Whatever faults I or you may have with B&N and Amaz..nice if they pd their
workers more than minumum wage..we are in a totally different relation to
them then new indep. booksellers..and if both start buying 'rare' books
that will be the 2nd best thing ever...more waves in a small pool.We are constantly guilt-tripped by Pat Whats her name..poor bizness
practices are not our fault..and what does indep. mean..in one Case in NY
it means a chain of 4 stores with 40 workers..not 400 with 4,000..get a life..If you look at B&N..assoc. it;s truly amazing that the major
players..like Ken Lopez and Black Sun..and Lame Duck and Moe's immediately
signed up..without a word..and Jane from JeJuen was complaining she was
only getting 4 bucks for her 5 dollar book. Reality Check..there are a lot
of books out ...buy 'emAs per previous listings..which no one read..this is cut-throat small
marginned bizness..when the best thing that ever happened to it is
questioned by those who know the least about it..we know we're dancing down
Hollywood's version of Charing Cross Rd..Dr n.
