Read & ReRead Ken Lopez essay on Collecting Books this morn...Ken is
sincere, bright, articulate, knows much more about it than i'll ever know
and i think mostly wrong...he sez what's driving prices up..35 grand for a
signed, 1st ON THE ROAD, is the reversal in per centage between completist
collectors and high spot collector...the new affluent high spot guys
driving up(maddddly) the price of CATCHER CATCH GONE SUN MALTESE MOCKINGBIRDA millenial bug, fever, flu..sweeps over us..as it does any fin de
siecle..but this one is triple witching hr...with the Pax Americana,
Internetization and Malling of said Pax, & DePuritization of the land
(n.b. William Jefferson Clinton..just keep talking and carry a big
CIGAR)...The relaxing of the MORAL FIBRE...which opens up the mainstream to
bis, gays, onerists, pedarists, cross-dressers, etc...REMEMBER...book
collectors like all collectors...weird guys & gals in dusty corners doing
God knows what... .Collecting itself is a very suspect activity...When everyone is out of the closet..it's surprising that everyone
doesn't want to Do Debbie..but some of US want to buy a Book..Weird
Weird..Weird..Abt at the same level as Debbie's A** Does The Hell's
Angels...The movement is also from cult to mainstream...the internet let this
happen with the mad manic nomadic rush similar to the ping pong adventures
of the Aids Virus...The movement is also from secret activity to public access...Culture
itself is a kind of virus..see all of Phillip Dick & all of BiG Bill
Burroughs...so sez Finegain Again sez he I'm Finnegain the Sailor's Son's
Lingo or H.C.E. do zippity do dah...We are players and played upon..the music of history is a ringing in
our ears..mostly BOMBS at the moments, in yr dreams, fellow travellers,
stop up yr ears..sirens strait ahead...DrN.
