Rainy, miasmic day e.village. Thanx for those who wrote...as O.
Wilde didn't say "to be misunderstood is to be understood well enough.." On
the burning issue of the hour like "flaneur," nice Baudlerian or Walter
Benjamin ring to it..To the Gentleman whose going to vote with his pocket
book for the flaneur he no like 'em, not nice 'nough for him..oh well there
goes the second Mercedes..
Bright Ideas #1) A new inter-net magazine to take the place of the
self-serving A.B..(I vote myself in as the gossip columnist bound to offend
all) am I the only one to notice that everytime a Bookseller wrote an
article for that Rag he had to take out a Full-Page ad, or that there
hasn't been a letter to the editior for ages..they prob. didn't want to
hear what anyone had to say..There must be a computer wiz out there who
could spend all his time on this for nothing..I know ABE has one..but it's
erratic and do we really want to know what the staff read this summer...
Bright Ideas #) CONVENTION..funny hats, exotic locales, women, men,
wine..mutterings, ravings..A year or two away..Big booths by Amazon,
B&N..Computer Makers, Soft-war(e) guys, meet and greet the folks and
discuss common problems of selling on the net..Disorganized, anarchic..fun..
Bright Idea #1,00l) Change the name of the Industry...we're no
longer o.p & antiq. booksellers...but in E-net.book hot media. biz..much
better name welcomed...
Bright Idea...) Prices..with so much activity on the net..how
about some real feed back on what's sold..ABPC is out dated by the time
it's shipped..4,000 dealers giving real time sales would help
everyone...I'll start..who else. The Bobby Jones signed, limited fine
copy and scarce thus $9.000 to a Dealer and my friend Ghani at Tompkins Sq.
Books..(best little book store in N.Y.C.) Cartier-Bresson's "Decisive
Moment" good at best in D.J., but with nice inscription...$2,000
drop-shipped for a dealer who marked it up who knows what..it languished on
the shelves for almost 2 years at $800...Inter-net related sales only..
Gotta go now and buy some more books...so i can't see the ones i
bought yesterday..dr.n
