- listen: rock and roll fans of very nearly any description will enjoy the song stylings of austin band and you will know us by the trail of dead. apologies if this is old hat, but we can't seem to stop listening to it. let us not forget the wisdom of great irish-american novelist and dandy j.p. donleavy, to the effect of 'never adopt a fashion until it has been sufficiently abandoned.'

- read: the believer, mcsweeney's new magazine, was reportedly touted by publisher d. eggers as 'the new york review for us', an aggravating description which still shouldn't stop you from taking a bite of this literary curate's egg. the debut issue is twee as hell and painfully selfconscious, but it has got an absolutely celestial interview of terry gilliam conducted by salman rushdie. maybe eggers & co. could learn a thing or two about how to achieve the effect of elegant self-deprecation from these old pros.

- drink: this incredible muscat called beaumes de venise. we haven't tried the kind offered on the link, but we plan to. serve it with sliced pears and toasted nuts instead of a regular dessert, yum.
