- submit: jamie oliver of culinary fame [ciel, but he is appealing! ed.] is maybe the kindest man in the world. along with publishing a diary and various items of interest to fans of his excellent cooking shows on his website, mr. oliver invites unsigned bands to send their music in, promising to pass worthy stuff along to record industry pals. not even mentioning how he is this terrific cook, from whom we learned to use a bundle of smashed thyme branches to brush flavored oil onto mushrooms and stuff. sheesh. also, our congratulations to mr. oliver and his lovely wife on the arrival of their new baby.

- read: the sisterhood of the traveling pants by ann brashares is just a great book for girls of all ages. romantic, thought-provoking and funny. there's going to be a movie, with delia ephron writing the screenplay. note to warner bros., please do not cast hilary duff in this movie, o please.

- eat: strawberries, of course, doused in grand marnier and a little sugar. might as well skip dinner and just have a triple helping, in fact.
